This picture from Cornwall is our farewell from England |
We left Great Eversden and Cambridge six o’clock being very
punctual, we told the landlords earlier that morning that it would be six and
so it was. Two hours later we were in Harwich, some of us went to dinner in
hotel Tower, some of us stayed in the car. Luckily, we all went for a walk on
the beach a bit later. We were at the harbor by ten, and got to the ship quite
soon. BUT we had to stay in the car, while the other disappeared somewhere, so
unfair!
Early in the morning by 7.30 the folks returned to the car, pretty soon we were
out of the ferry. Luckily, the kennel boy had negotiated with his Here and knew
that there was something green just five minutes from the harbor of Hoek van
Holland. And by gosh, there was, a nice huge park just for us with the sunrise
and breakfast. We could forgive the folks their nightly neglect.
A couple of hours later someone needed coffee and something needed the petrol.
We did not need anything? A couple of more hours driving in the mist and it was
time for a walk. Since it was (almost) raining, we were left in the car again
and someones did get feeded. Soon after we were in a national park of Wildeshaausen and we had the park and the paths for ourselves for an hour, lovely!
Two more hours in the car and we were almost in our destination, in Lübeck. And
yes this time the google was right, it took only six hours to get there, it was
Saturday, no accidents, no road works going on! Some of us wanted to see the
Christmas markets, and so we did! We saw lots of people, lots of lights and
lots of interesting smells here and there. The walk was a bit different than
during the day but quite nice, though, the smells! The walk ended by the dinner
in the car and someones disappeared to their dinner somewhere unknown. Someones
returned to the car a couple of hours later, some more driving (just 15
minutes) took us to the beaches of Travemünde. We had a nice walk along the
strand with lots of “no dogs” signs (it was after ten and not swimming season
anyway), in the end of the unwelcoming strand we did find a dog beach with sand
and good conscience. After that some of
us thought that we are ready to embark, so we did 11 o’clock and did not have
to wait long until we were in the ferry. This time we were allowed to follow
someones in the ferry. But what a service, we had to stay there two nights and
a day in between. We were taken every now and then to the deck, but we are
ladies and can not help ourselves on such a places, so we just waited and waited
all those 35 hours!

We arrived to Dover by sunset, to Helsinki by sunrise. From the cabin window we were looking a seal enjoying his life in front of this ferry. |
It was more than nice to get out in Vuosaari, finally! Though we did not head
home, no we did not. First we visited grandma’s place, there someones were busy
removing stuff out, then we were left there by ourselves. Next pit stop was granpapa’s place, again no
host to greet us. Luckily, we did get a good outing in the afternoon around the
castle and the park nearby, it would have been so nice to run on the ice but
someone did not like the idea, eventhough there were lots of people over there.
After the walk, some carrying stuff out again and we staying by ourselves in the house while
someones were busying themselves. So, it happened that we did not get home
until bed time. We kind of smell some changes
in the air!
